Alarm software demo

You can easily get your PC to talk to the outside world by using the K8055 USB interface board from  Velleman Components n.v.  The card is an excellent quality, low cost USB interface card. It has five digital inputs, two of which have a counter capability, two analogue inputs, eight open collector outputs and two PWM outputs.

K8055 Interface Software

The K8055 Interface Software is a graphical front end for the Interface board. The software demonstrates all the capabilities of the board. In order for it to run, the K8055D.DLL must be in the system32 folder and the card address should be set to '0'. The software will check the K8055D.DLL is in the correct folder

Software capabilities

Counter 1

Start:-Continuously monitors Counter 1 input and displays the result.

Stop:-Stops continuous monitoring of counter 1.

Please note, the K8055 counter will continue to increment on each trigger, but the application will no longer update the result.

Read:- This will perform a single read of the count from the K8055 card.

Reset:-This resets the channel 1 counter of the K8055 card.

Counter 2

Start:-Continuously monitors Counter 2 input and displays the result.

Stop:-Stops continuous monitoring of counter 2

Digital Input

Start:-Continuously monitors all digital inputs and displays the logic levels of each input channel. The display also indicates which buttons were pressed.

Stop:-Stops continuous monitoring of the digital inputs.

Analogue Input 1

Start:-Continuously monitors analogue input 1. The value is displayed. the range is 0 to 255.

Stop:- Stops continuously monitoring analogue input 1.

Read:-This will perform a single read of analogue input 1

 

Analogue Input 2

Start:-Continuously monitors analogue input 2. The value is displayed. the range is 0 to 255.

Stop:- Stops continuously monitoring analogue input 2

Read:-This will perform a single read of analogue input 2

Analogue Output.

Sets the Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) output. The range is 0 to 255.

Set All Analogue:-Sets both analogue channels to maximum.

Clear All Analogue:-Clears both analogue outputs to minimum.

[10 ], [5], [1]:-Increments/decrements the outputs by 10, 5, 1 resp.

Rotary Sliders 1&2:-Adjust analogue outputs using the rotary control. Fine tuning can then be done using the 10/5/1 controls.

Sine 1&2 Sample:-Ten cycles of sine modulation of the output.

Digital Output

Allows control of the eight digital outputs.

Set All Digital:-Sets all 8 digital outputs. All 8 LEDs will illuminate.

Clear All Digital:-Turns off all 8 digital outputs. All 8 LEDs will extinguish.

[1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]:-Toggles individual digital channels on/off. Note, you can also operate the LEDs by clicking on the LEDs in the image of the card.

Digital Count:-counts up in binary from 0 to 255, then down.

Step:-turns on individual LED in sequence.

Stop:-stops the LED count and step sequence.

K8055 Alarm Software Demo

Download a very simple demonstration of how the K8055 can be configured as an alarm HERE Win2000/XP

To operate the program, you must:-

SET THE 8055 ADDRESS TO ‘0’ AND MAKE SURE THE K8055D.DLL IS IN THE WIN SYSTEM 32 FOLDER.

When the program starts, there is an automatic 20 second EXIT delay. During this time, the alarm is disabled and automatically sets when the delay is finished.

When Digital channel 1 input goes low, the alarm will be triggered.

The alarm has three stages.

1     Entry Delay. Digital Output 7 switches ON/OFF for 20 seconds and an alarm is sounded by the PC.

2     After the entry delay period, Digital Output 2 switches ON/OFF for 40 seconds.

3     After the entry delay period, Digital Output 1 switches ON until the program is restarted.

Digital outputs are open collector. See the Velleman specification for the switching capability.

If you use a passive infra-red detector at the input, this has a ‘Normally Closed’ relay which goes open circuit when the detector is triggered. this will still trigger the 8055 when the detector relay closes, however the alarm will not be triggered until the end of the PIR alarm time.

 If the PIR is continuously triggered by movement, the PIR relay will not close, so the software will not be triggered. If there is the option of Normally Closed or Normally Open, select Normally Open contacts. otherwise it’s best to invert the input.

The alarm automatically resets after being triggered, but LED 1 remains illuminated to indicate the system has been triggered.

K8055 Data Logger

Use the K8055 for low speed data logging applications. The software will monitor and record the input. Each sample is saved to a CSV  file and the data are displayed. Download the beta version  HERE Win 2000/XP

To operate the program, you must:-

The logging time can be adjusted between 5 minutes and 24Hrs 59min by typing the required time into the input boxes.

When the unit is logging, Digital output 1 will be on. To stop at any time, press the stop button.

The CSV data file can be found in C:\Program Files\DataLoggerBeta\DataLog.txt.

 

 

K8055 Automatic Test System

The K8055 is ideal for small scale automatic test. The open collector outputs can drive a custom designed relay board which can sequence events.
